Butch Cornwell had Bent Peter, TX on his name tag at St. Louis one year. Obviously it was worth repeating! Image

<SMALL>Most of us would probably think Cut And Shoot, TX</SMALL>
Now, I'd vote for Cut'n'Shoot, TX. Just a few miles from where I live.

Heck, in a lot of databases, if you put in my zip code, it shows Cut'n'Shoot instead of Conroe. Go figure.

Where do I sign the petition? Image

Getting back to a serious alternative for Nashville as a site for the CMA awards, I would vote for Billy Bob's in the Stockyards District in Fort Worth TX. Maybe some of the folks could go to the clubs in that area and realize just how far from Country Music many of them have strayed.

All Bull$hit aside ,we all know LA is the first site they have in mind...The hollywood night scene needs the Country producers to spend $ followed by New York...The Gaylords who are complete Idiots I'm sure can take the loss and empty Opryland hotel that time slot filled. Afterwards they can shut down the Opry and wsm and say there is not enough support for Country Music in Nashburg. So long Nash er whatever your name was we knew you well. Image

Just a quick refresher course.
The CMA organized in 1958
1961 First inducties voted to the Hall of fame
1967 Hall of Fame building constructed
First CMA awards held
1968 Awards are recorded for delayed broadcast on the Kraft Music hour.

The Disk Jockey Convention and later the CMA
awards were always in October just before the
Grand Old Opry aniversery celabration.

CBS in the interest of ratings moved the awards to September in 2000. In 2001 they
moved to November and will be in November for 2002.

Since I can't imagine what benefit anyone would garner from moving the show (after all, it would have zero effect on ratings), I suspect it might be a ploy to get the city of Nashville to bend a little in some other negotiations that the two sides may be involved in.

Maybe if the CMA moves to another place, Nashville will become the Country Music Capital again.

Now Now Now... We don't need to be making fun of all these wonderful Texas names.

Yes, we're all familiar with Cut'n'Shoot.

And Ray, I'm glad you know where Muleshoe is. Just up the road from Brownfield. Not too far from being a "Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas, TX." I have two very good friends, one from Muleshoe, the other from Dumas.

Erv, Dime Box is over here on my side of the world. Less than 20 miles from College Station. I went to a dance there once. Lots of "Good ol folk" in that town. If you're going on the other side of College Station, I beg you to find the wonderful metropolis of North Zulch. We ended up there one night after some heavy experimentation with Lone Star Beer.

Now lemme ask this. Everybody's gone and thrown out the "stereotypical Texas towns". Nobody remembers Gun Barrel City? Home of the All American Redneck, Earl Pitts? Just right there near Eustace, TX, home of Junior Knight. (Mr. Knight, sorry to rain on your parade if you were planning on throwing that one in.)

I say Bring 'em to Fortworth. Born and raised there, there's plenty of places to have the awards besides William Robert's. I don't think it's really set up to host an awards ceremony like that, even though it's famous for being the "world's largest honky-tonk." Besides, the PA system leaves quite a bit to be desired. The live albums turn out allright from there, but being there just doesn't sound as good. I say if it's in Fort Worth, hold it Downtown in the Bass Performance Hall. You're not but a 10 minute drive from the Stockyards, and there's lots of other good stuff to see there.

Fort Worth it is, then. To hell if Las Angeles is more profitable. And in the words of the old Pace Picante commercial, "NEW YORK CITY!?!?!"

Wow. That's even better, Glenn. I'm still a fan of "Gun Barrel City." And just to prove that you can find anything on the internet, please review the list, and cast YOUR VOTE NOW!!! (hee hee ... Hoop and Holler, TX... NO WAIT! Yreka Zzyzx, California!!!)

Sorry if I seem at a loss for words, I'm still speechless from Johan Jansen's post under "Cowboy boots" in the Humor section. That's just really weird. No wonder us "country bumpkins" really don't get any respect from the rest of the nation...

Y'all make sure there's some fish in the water for this weekend. I's plannin on catchin me a bunch...
