I think John's comment on that statement about Gaylord using the example of the property income in Dallas was a tip for all of us who might be interested in these things. The big music publishers are, in one true sense, property managers. Copyrights (songs) are just like real estate and are bought and traded accordingly. Just because one company buys these properties doesn't mean they will develope them (in this case it doesn't mean they will actually try to get new "cuts" from the catalog or body of works). Ever wonder why you might see a barren or otherwise unused piece of property with no buildings just sitting abandoned for years and years. Someone owns that and if it's a company owned situation, they are probably waiting for the right time to move it (as one option).
I don't doubt that some of the personnel from the Acuff/Rose catalog were included in the deal which means the body of works will still be "worked" to some degree. If not, and if Sony doesn't put a team to work on this catalog, it will go on the shelf like many other song catalogs and sit awaiting it's turn for trading or selling. (Remember one of the last scenes from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" showing the crated Ark being stored away in a vast maze of other crates? : )
However, this is neither good or bad as an overall impact to the industry. These type of deals take place every day, just more frequently on a smaller scale. Did I mention that we'd entertain selling off part of our catalog for the right price?

there was a radio station with the call letters WGAY in Washington DC for many years. Owned by a fella named (get this, I am not lying) Connie B. Gay. Started out as (I think) a country station, and later became the premier "beautiful relaxing" dentist office music outlet in our nation's capitol all thru the late 60's and into the 70's- maybe even the 80's
