I like Gregg Galbreth (sp).
Gregg's brother-in-law, Brian Franklin, is quite the picker, too.

He's currently with Kenny Rogers, I believe.

Jerry H., yes you are refering to the old American Music Shop that was about the top venue for the greatest pickers of our time. I too listened to Brent's hot licks video today for the first time in quite a while and stand in awe at his ability. His "Hot Wired" CD shows he can play any style with the best of them.

Jimmy Capps, still at the Opry, still playing the good stuff. Canadian guitar players, Steve Piticco, Mike Francis. Brent Mason, no question about him. Is Dann Huff the reason we've been hearing all those chainsaw guitars in country music these days?

Let me put this another way. I am lookin for pickers who are playing the styles of Roy Nichols, Leon Rhodes, Eldon Shamblin etc. Altho I can appreciate some of these younguns playing abilities, it's evident they were more influenced by the rock era. Seems to me the general public is more impressed with whos the fastest gun. Who's hot ,who's smoking that "Chainsaw Guitar".

I just wanna hear some real country music. The kind I grew up listening too. Hey, it's just my opinion, but from what little I hear on the radio, there ain't no more country music. I'm sure they are people out there doin it and possibly getting recorded. Its just a pity they're not gettin the promotion that those no singing Big Hats and Sissy boys are.

good evenin,
Charles

A couple of times a year I do a concert with Scotty Anderson.
He is without a doubt the best Tele player I have ever witnessed in my 52 years.
Country, Jazz, Blues, Fingerstyle--He does it all and amazingly. Best thing about him is that he has NO ego and is just the nicest fellow you could ever meet.

Charles, I do agree with you that there ain"t
no more country out there. What happened to Merle,George, Gene Watson, Mel Tillis, Ray Price, the list is endless.Charles, James Burton played lead guitar on Merle Haggards
recordings of Working Man Blues, and Momma Tried. And Bill, you're right,Scotty Anderson
very well may be the best there has ever been. And for what it's worth, I loved Roy Nichols, and Eldon Shamblin both.A final remark, lets not leave Thumbs Carlise(sp?).

I meant to say, lets not leave Thumbs Carlise
out of the list of great pickers.
