Some other cross genre pairings:

Merle Haggard & Jewel

Willie Nelson & Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler ,or Willie and just about anyone else. It would be easier to list the people that haven't sang with Willie.

Tammy Wynette & British pop act KLF (this pairing was a number 1 dance hit in 16 countries)

Garth Brooks & Billy Joel

Johnny Cash & U2(The Johnny Cash duet list is about as long as Willie Nelson's)

or if you want to go back further in time

Jimmie Rodgers & Luis Armstrong, Earl Hines, Eddie Lang, or
Jimmie Rodger & Hawaiian steel guitarist Lani McIntyre and his Hawaiians- Without these cross genre recordings there may not have been Steel Guitar in Country Music and Country Music wouldn't be what it is today!

As I sit here listening to Jimmie Rodgers 78 RPM recording Lookin For A New Mama , I can just imagine the discussion you guys would have back in 1929--HAWAIIANS GO HILLBILLY!
[This message was edited by Alvin Blaine on 24 July 2003 at 09:59 AM.]

YO, down under man, JANSON what I meant by Charlie Manson being out in the forest with all kind of animals is he did do a TV interview about two or three years ago and made a statement, "Like man my body might behind bars but my metal state & mind is out there in the forest with the deer, rabbits, the Warden thinks he won me over, I gone man, from this cell, like to join me."

I have nothing against Dolly, I have about 5 great albums by her, it's not her fault that she teamed up with that skin head thing you call human, like I said it's all about money, big recording companies, I say lets dig up old blue eyes, Frankie and have him sing a few with James Brown, boy they would sell billions together.

Again I'm glade I don't support the entertainment industry any more, it's my God given American right to do so. Do you have any thing like this as we Americans have in your land of down under, now don't get me wrong or go flying off hot headed at me, I love you guys for the support you gave us American G'I's in Viet Nam, do you recall such a great war, you guys did jolly great too, boy did your guys kicked some butt there on Charlie & company.

Someone on another topic posted something about being an "artist", and that fits Sinead O'Connor. She is, in my opinion, a musician's singer because she listens so intently, and her bands are usually superb -- especially her recent ones. I think she would really appeal to a crowd that goes to see Dolly Parton because Dolly is very musical too. Country music's roots are in Ireland and Scotland (as well as Africa), and I think that will be very apparent during the concerts. Keep an open mind, buy a ticket, and enjoy the music.

Well said, Susan!

Unfortunately, an open mind is not a prerequisite for membership of this Forum....

For anyone suggesting I stick to the topic, for one it's a lame topic and number two, I was replying to comments made. (that apparently weren't fully realised thoughts)

Every person I referred to had previously been mentioned.
Can I make that any simpler for you Chris, you w-a-n-t m-e t-o s-p-e-l-l i-t o-u-t?
(actually, that isn't quite as funny as I thought it would be...sigh)

With comments like "skin head thing you call human" from Kenneth, it would seem that this topic has degenerated to a slinging match that allows a semi-articulate hate monger a voice.
Yeah, keep this open.. greeee-aat topic!

But perhaps I'm not sticking to the topic, the topic seems to be about.. well let's see:

Original post with my thoughts:

Yes it's true that bald head feminist from Saturday Night Live who thinks she can sing will be appearing on Dolly Parton's new CD due in late October.
:Kenneth has a problem with baldness?
:Kenneth has an issue with feminists?
:Kenneth knows who should be on Dolly's albums better than Dolly?
:Kenneth has problems?

She does one heck of a job tearing up photos live on T.V. so I guess Dolly has a place for her on her new CD.
:Kenneth is so terribly upset with Sinead, ya boo, she so bad sayeth Kenneth?!

It's called making money & sell, sell, sell.
:Kenneth thinks that Dolly has no control of her career, and that cynical marketing moves are what got this all happening?
:Kenneth has issues with strong women?
:Kenneth thinks that Sinead sells a lot of records, or is it Dolly.. what is Kenneth thinking, anyone know?

I have one question for a Dolly, why not have Marilyn Mason for a live duet on stage at the Opry, and when Marilyn Manson feels he/she needs to pee, bingo he/she can do it live where all the greats in country music once stood. (Hey it's the "IN' thing to do, it's the 21 century, lighten up Ken, hey dude you need to be re-programed.)
:Kenneth hears voices, is that the topic?

Wonder why I don't go to Nashville or buy tickets for the new country acts or even buy CDs any more (except pedal steel CD's) or even support what today's music culture calls country music. Radio country is ban in my house & my car.
:Kenneth knows what's the best country music, unlike so many others, he doesn't simply live in a time warp of his perosnal tastes, he just knows what's better by ignoring it. Is that the topic?

Guess I'm out of tune or just getting too old.
:Is Kenneth out of tune or just getting too old, is that the topic?

Time to wake up guys, it's all over, kiss it all good bye, money is the key, hats & bellys are in.
:Kenneth knows that things have changed, and although he has no solution or clue, he is man enough to admit it. Is that the topic?

BUT........
Hank, Ray, Buck, Waylon, Connie they still rule in my house when it comes to country music.
:Kenneth thinks that dead people and famous people are coming to visit his house?
:Kenneth thinks that country music stars are royalty and live at his house, or that his record collection is better than everone elses.. is that a topic, or the topic at all?

Just my thoughts for today.
:Kenneth has thoughts, at least one or two a day, that he simply has to share, is that the topic?
[This message was edited by Jason Odd on 26 July 2003 at 08:15 PM.]

Actually, Jason, the topic (and the problem with Sinead) is dual:
1) Sinead has no solution for the problem of 3rd string breakage...
2) Sinead has not (at least in public) expressed any clear views on the Equal Temperament/Just Intonation debate.
Now I've got the thread back ON topic, you can all just carry on....

P.S. Jason, I think Chris was just kidding, and actually understood you perfectly well... see the smiley face?
[This message was edited by nick allen on 28 July 2003 at 02:35 AM.]

That's alright Jason, I knew you were just throwing it back at me. See, now I'M off topic!

But after further review, it's obvious to me what the topic is: Sinbad O'Connor, Sinead's pirate brother. If Dolly is pairing up with him, she's DEFINITELY selling out, what with that new "Pirates of the Carribean" movie and all. We've all been off topic.
