The "Pickin On" series of rock songs done bluegrass style are pretty good. Although John Mellencamp is not country he does do a lot of roots rock type music.
Has anyone ever heard "Luther Wright & the Wrongs" doing a country version of "Pink Floyd's" "The Wall"?

I'm glad I'm not the only Run C&W fan here. How about Boy Howdy? Their cover of the Kinks "You Really Got Me" has some of the best guitar work I've ever heard.

Of course...I also like Dread Zepplin...A Led Zepplin band fronted by an Elvis impersonator singing Elvis/Zepplin tunes in a Reggae style.

Check out the cut "Dead Flowers" on the Stones's Sticky Fingers album . At the time , late sixties, Kieth Richards was hanging out alot with Gram Parsons. They do have a legit country side to them.

John Mellancamp,Sheryl Crow,Bruce Springsteen and the rest of the artists being added on to the cmt playlist are great(with the exception of kid rock). They are all better than most the stupid current country "artists"! Please give a real reason that they aren't good besides the fact that they aren't ray price. -Derek

As it has happened to all of us, I'm sure, I caught a concert this summer that I wouldn't have gone to, had I not been standing there as part of a festival...
Sheryl Crow. I saw the name on the program, and thought "I wouldn't like that... and I don't know any of her songs, except that silly Kid Rock duet"
I stayed, and found I was wrong on both counts. Not only did I recognize every song she sang, but I had to admit from a musician's standpoint, she's talented.
She was the strongest instrumentalist in her band, imho, and sang as well and as true live as in the studio. And, a nod to Derek, - unlike anything I've ever heard T. McGraw and some of those other clowns do, she had dead-on intonation.
I don't know if it was country, but it was real, and it was good.
As for the Faiths and Tims, and all the other hollow glam acts... well, as one forumite wisely said; "You shouldn't say that it's bad...you should just say "I don't like it".

p.s. But she didn't sound anything like Ray Price. Image

Granted, CMT just gets lamer and lamer, however:

I'm much more tolerant of rock 'n' roll acts who add country flavors to their sound because they love country (Stones, Byrds, Beatles, even Kid Rock) than I am of country acts who try to "rock" their music up because they think it will make them "hip" and "edgy" and get them more sales.

It might get them more sales, but it sure ain't hip.

Hats off to any rock act that has the guts to show a country influence now & then.

God bless Keith Richards. He cares a lot more about country music than Faith does.

What about country acts who add rock flavors to their sound because they love rock'n'roll? Is that okay, too?

Yes b0b, I suppose I would deem that "OK" Image.

My point is that the rock acts who incorporate country are risking a lot more "hip credibility" with the 13-25 year old demographic (a population which is SO important to the record company bean-counters) than are the country acts who incorporate rock elements.

For that reason I am more inclined to believe that the former group is motivated by a love of the music while the latter group is making a shrewd career calculation.

In the eyes of the gigantic record companies, country acts who rock it up are only going to piss off traditionalist old farts who never buy music anymore anyway, while they might get a few extra skateboard kids to pay attention.

That's why I'm always suspicious whenever I see a country act with pointy guitars and whammy bars.
