There was a sad song Darryl Worley had recorded last year called "I Miss My Friend" and it went to number one on the country charts. Paul Franklin played steel on the record and Eddie Gossien played it live. When Darryl plays the song live, at the end of the song, the piano plays the intro part and then the steel really cries. Sing me back home with a song I used to hear.

The warden walk the prisoner down the hallway to his end...

They're still doing 'em.

Vince Gil - Nobody Answers When I call Your Name
? - that song about the guy who sent a beach post card home from his business trip and the plane crashed on his way home.

I just heard one called "Who Will Hold Her Hand When She Crosses the Streets of Heaven" - one of those generic pop/country divas - didn't catch who it was. As the father of three little girls, I almost had to pull my car over and get that lump in my throat down to a size where I could breath again. Image Image Image

Yes Brendan, Mobile Bay and The Brothers from the "Yesterday's Wine" album get my vote. My favorite record of all time.

Well, I think the topic was for "this year" but I can't think of one so i'll go with Rose Colored Glasses by John Conlee. <a href=http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/count ... smusic.htm> My tune</a> at soundclick.com is kinda sad... and I'm not just refering to the playing. Image

Favorite Sad song to Listen to: Grand Tour - Aaron Neville's version. With Aaron singing it, you feel he's been sooooooo wronged.

Hardest sad song to listen to emotionally: Tears in Heaven

Hardest sad song to watch: HURT - Johnny Cash. (Chose to only see it once).

Now I'm getting depressed. Who started this thread, anyway?? Image

Well for this year only, the only tune I heard on the drive to St Louis that qualifies is

Three Crosses (by the side of the road)

Or some such, I am not sure of the name.
The minister, the school teacher, the driver, the hooker, and the bus crash.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 25 October 2003 at 04:05 AM.]</p></FONT>

Richard,
I agree "The Baby" Blake Shelton
"Walk A Little Straighter" Billy Currington
"I love You This Much" Jimmy Wayne

I think the title of Randy's is "Three Wooden Crosses". Very sad! I pick all of these.

Carol Westbrook is a little known singer who has a beautiful voice and wrote a song about her young son who had committed suicide. I can hardly get through it without tears ever time I play it. The words are shown below.
=============================================

A Mother’s Request
Written and recorded by Carol Westbrook

Mary, how you must have cried when they nailed him to the tree.

My heart goes out to you because you’re a mother just like me.

So Mary, that is why I feel that I can come to you.

Although it was in a different way, I lost my baby too.

You know how much I miss his smile, his laughter in the air

The way the sunlight used to dance upon his golden hair.

So, Mary, since you know exactly what I’m going through,

I feel that you will understand this small request of you.

Mary, will you ask your son to keep an eye on mine,

watch over him ‘till I get there, if you would be so kind.

Your baby is the King of Kings, it won’t be hard for him to do.

So, Mary, would you speak to him – I love my baby too.

I'd say the saddest song with steel is "The Last Goodbye" by Red Sovine. After you hear that song just once then go back and listen again, I'll bet money that the intro raises the hair on your neck. I've owned that heart-breakin' SOB for years and it still has the same effect. It leaves me feeling cold and the sad thing is that I have no clue who played it.
