John,it's good to see your post on Glen Barber. I had the privilege of workin' with Glen in the 80's. He impressed me so much with the palm pedals, I couldn't wait to buy some. I never got as much from them as Glenn did but it was worth the effort. When Glen would say this is the way Curly Chalker would play, it sounded just like Curly. If he said this is the way Buddy Emmons would play, I swear it sounded like Buddy. If I'm not mistaken Glen played steel befoe he put the palm pedals on the Tele. And you're right about his Hank William's story. He is a super talent. I don't know if I have his address anymore or not. If I can find it I'll e-mail it to you. Doyle

......At one time his great group consisted of Al Bruno on lead, Dale Bennett on bass, Archie Francis on drums, and either JayDee Maness or Carl West on steel......
Dale Bennett....you can't hide anywhere....they tracked you down all the way to Oklahoma City!
...and of course Carl West is still out there!
both are active Forum members currently!

Al Bruno has paid his dues several times over. Instead of looking for more work he ought to be laying in a hammock on Maui writing his memoirs.

When I talked to G.D. Walker about buying my Stereo Steel Preamp, He told me that Al had Moved to Vegas and is using a Stereo Steel amp now. Man there must be a ton of Hot Licks in that old Twin he used to use.
[This message was edited by John Floyd on 13 January 2004 at 12:48 PM.]

Someone else told me about this a few months ago. If anyone know where Al Bruno is playing or how to get a hold of him, Please let me know.Al Bruno recently sold his house in Northridge and moved to Las Vegas to work. Who ever he's working with really has a prize. JH
I just quit the band I was working with in Vegas and I need to steal some licks from Mr. Bruno to get my creativity going again.

You might contact G,D, Walker at this website, There is a possiblility that he know how to contact Al.
In 1972 he scared me to death in Nashville and I went to playing bass the very night I went to a jam session where he was playing. Convinced me real quick that I couldn't measure up as a guitar player. What a picker!!! and one hell of a nice guy.
[This message was edited by John Floyd on 13 January 2004 at 04:31 PM.]

Any westcoaster remember Glenn Garrison? He had an album or two out on the Imperial label I believe. I have one of them. He had a couple of tunes covered my major artists also. Glenn was killed in an automobile accident in Arkansas about 30 years ago or so. He was a very soulful singer and had a great style. I thought if he'd had the proper handling he'd have made it a lot further than he did. He used to work at the old Miller's Cave club in the LA area and had a pretty good band. I filled in on guitar a couple of nights when someone was sick but I can't remember who it was, maybe Cecil Bays or someone like that. Due to pharmacuticals, a lot of the old days memories are sometimes a little blurry...JH
