Tom, go back and re-read my post. I didn't say anything about our government being atheistic, theocratic, automatic, or anything else. I was asking you, if, as YOUR post indicated, we should trust our government totally no matter what it's affiliation. So you're a lawyer, huh? That means you make a living by not trusting the government. Certainly not by spelling, it's StalIn, not Stalan. You place great confidence in legislators and judges--most of whom are ex-lawyers, right?
BTW, being a lawyer, knowing about histrionics, and hopefully knowing a little history(spelling excepted), do you remember what Thomas Jefferson said about revolution being a necessary part of democracy?
And Lloyd Maines is a GREAT steel player!

Mike Perlowin "felt:"
If President Bush sexually harrasses women, lies under oath, uses military force to get his misdeeds off the front page, etc., then I will blast him, too! Right now, he is trying to prevent another 9/11 event. If he permitted another 9/11 attack, no doubt you and the other libs would be first to blame him for not preventing it...
Hope that clears up the differences for you!
Nice try...Just out of curiosity, how many of you who are so incensed over Natalie's remark, said something similar about Clinton?

I, for one, didn't vote for Bush in the election, but I believe he has done as good a job as can be expected of an American President in these circumstances. I was particularly moved by the President's gestures during the 9/11 ceremony when he comforted the victim's families. That, to me, far exceded any of the claims of his trigger-happy, cowboy-like sensibility so stated by his detractors, and I think most of the criticisms of him are personal and childish, and without any real merit. If anything, what Natalie Maines did was embarrass herself on a world stage, that's all. Sometimes sucking up to an audience can hurt you.

Stephen -- sorry if I misunderstood what you said. But I did re-read your post several times before I responded to it and, as I stated above, I wasn't able to understand exactly what you were asking.
In fact, I still don't totally understand what you're saying. As far as I know, the US Govt. does not affiliate itself with racism, atheism, theocracy, or any of the other words you used -- however, I suppose one could always argue that it does.
Actually, I don't make a living by not trusting the government, and I can't think of anyone who does -- except for maybe a died-in-the-wool anarchist or two. But I haven't run across any of those types.
To the contrary, I make my living by trusting the government. In a more indirect manner, I make my living because of the government and I would go so far as to say that most if not all citizens can say that their livelihood depends upon the government at least to some degree.
I didn't say that I place great confidence in legislators and judges, but I guess now that you bring it up, I would have to say that, yes, most of the legislators and judges have my confidence. I don't know that I would agree that most are ex-lawyers, but I suppose it's possible (in any case, if you were trying to make a point there, I missed it).
I'm not sure I remember exactly what Thomas Jefferson said about revolution being a necessary part of democracy, but I suppose I could go look it up.
Perhaps you could fill us in and also clarify what your point would be.
Sorry -- I've never been known to be a great spellar
And, I don't doubt that Lloyd Maines is a great steel player -- but again, I'm missing the point.

This isn't a political forum. I have a nephew in the gulf, and I'm sure my feelings are as strong as anyone's about this, but the Steel Guitar Forum is not the appropriate venue for this debate. We've been down that road before, and it only caused hard feeling all around.
