Are the Chicks gone yet? A good place for them to shoot off their mouths would be a free concert for the families of the brave who go without and could lose much.Safest concert to attend is a Chicks concert. Osama and Saddamn are big fans.They do not care for President Bush either.However they don't have time to listen to the Chicks either. Too tough finding a spot to put up an antenna.
I respectfully disagree with the premise that ;
publicly disagreeing with the president and being against a war
automatically equals or in anyway implies not supporting the people in harms way ; Our armed forces.
I have never seen them quoted as saying any such thing.
It is being implied by others as their intent, rather than taking their exact words as what was meant.
It could just as rightly be interpreted as meaning
they DON"T want our soldiers sent into harms way to protect them also ;
that's why they are disagreeing.
This is another equally valid interpretaion. AND this is a case of interpetations laid on top of the EXACT words used.
If you are not directly privie to what they meant OTHER than what they actually said,
how can you make a judgment on a basis other than what they actually said...
Unless that's what you want to believe.
Sorry, but this is logic and not emotion.
I have had many friends in the armed forces and always supported them, and was often against the conflicts they were sent into.
But there is no dictotomy in that.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 02 October 2003 at 11:46 AM.]

Free speech????talk to Rush Limbaugh about free speech.
Rush has never had a problem being free with his speach. And I disagree with those that say he is a big fat idiot. He has lost a lot of weight!
Now,....er...oh,yea...steel guitar. This post has to say something about steel guitar or music or else it risks being bannished to off topic! Well, there b0b, I guess I just used the words 'steel guitar' and 'music' - I'll try to be more careful!
Working Mans Dead did it for me. A great mix of country and rock. It really brought me back to the country sound.
The Dead drew inspiration from so many places and brought it together as themselves.
And they had steel and slide guitar too.
Wow- Some really disturbing and narrow comments here. BUT- Isn't America great that we can all agree to disagree. -I like these women and don't really care how they are catagorized. They had me with "Hole in My head" (B. Miller).
Joey, the NRPS version of "Dim Lights" - was that on Powerglide? Buddy Cage just blew me away on that album - "Running Back to You" left a big impression, as did "Hello Mary Lou". Took three or four years for me to come up with the dough for a steel, but those were some of the sounds that made me want one. As for the Chicks, from what I've heard they're making some good music. I don't think that their future success will depend on what us ol' boys on the Forum think! Funny how for the longest time it seemed like everyone on here was mad at Clear Channel because of their negative effect on country music. Now are CC suddenly a bunch of heroes for their response to Natalie's comment? At the end of the day, I suspect the Chicks will have done more for our kind of music than Clear Channel ever will.
OK,OK, I take back everything I said, their beautiful,talented and Id work with them in a heartbeat if asked and they have a lot of interest here on this long thread, I see...I still think that atheletes, movie and music "stars" or people of "higher" profiles should keep their personal beliefs to themselves and do what it is they do best or if they feel that strong about something, go into to politics if they REALLY think they can make a difference!!!!!
Some might say that artists with a high profile have a duty to speak their minds publicly for causes they believe in.
Of course these should be well reasoned and not off the cuff.
Some do it in their art others beside their art.
Who's to say this is wrong.
Going into politics isn't the only way to get action. politics is controled by public mass sentiment, and speaking publicly is a way to influence that sentiment ... for good and bad.
The chicks have done somethings on Home that, while not overtly political, address social issues. The one about the young girl and the soldier, and the other about a shot gun wedding come to mind.
The soldier one is one of the best songs I have heard in ages. And a great delivery too.
BTW,
I was just reading a old article in a 1967 Fretts. Ray Price was being dissed for things he said in a "Country Roundup" mag interview.
He was leaving Country Music for mainstram Pop, forgetting the Steel and Fiddles that made him popular. At least that's what the article said. It also said, "He'll be back when he's hungry.".
Joey, good one on Ray Price. Yup, some things just keep coming round again and again. I have a notion that with a lot of digging one could find a number of country entertainers who have announced their intention to hit the pop charts! But so many of our number keep saying that, the country market ain't country anymore and that it has already gone pop on us. Not like the good old days of pure country artists like Ray Price........I don't care if his version of "For the Good Times" was country or not - I like it. Now Powerglide - THAT was country (even though it was being performed by freaks!)
[This message was edited by Bob Blair on 06 October 2003 at 09:27 AM.]
