Need Suggestions For "Old Time" Sound

Post by David Soreff »

Aloha Kakou,
I'm doing some "for fun" recording on my Mac, using Logic Express 8. I have a steel tune, (Haole Hula) that I would like to record and make it sound as if it was recorded in the 30's. Low fi, a little scratchy but still listenable. You know, kinda Victorla-ish.
It's not for a CD, but just an experiment to have some fun with. Any thoughts on plug ins and/or effects that might get me there, or close to it? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You could also try playing your recording through an old (low fidelity) speaker, and mike that, re-recording it.

I did a recording for an artist one time that wanted a vintage sound.. they used a single track with a paper sack being crush up and around to sound like a scratched up record... it worked great.

There's a great free plugin that does just that:
http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/

Hopefully it works with your system.

I'm with Bryan, Izotope vinyl is the best solution on the cheap...

I could play fiddle on the tracks? Some people think that's got a scratchy sound to it.
