The original link had information to fill out if one were an owner or operator of a music venue and had an interest in booking the show. Size of venue, number of seats, etc.

I’m keeping my eyes peeled for any news or progress, but at this point it would seem we’re in the preliminary stage.

And yes - of course the steel player should be Lloyd or JayDee...or both!

Marty Stuart owns Clarence White's original B-Bender tele and can actually play all of Clarence's parts (NO easy thing!). He will be an excellent addition to the tour.

Link below to a video of The Byrds on Playboy After Dark in 1968 with groovy cats and chicks rockin' out to a pair of Dylan songs, You Ain't Goin' Nowhere and This Wheel's on Fire (co-written by Rick Danko).

Clarence with the Parsons/White Stringbender. No doubt shortly after the recording of Sweetheart. Gram Parsons is gone and Gene Parsons had yet to join the band. No Lloyd or JayDee for the TV appearance, so Clarence is providing the "bends."

In 1969 the Stringbender was in heavy use with two Byrds albums released that year, Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde and The Ballad of Easy Rider. Some will recall that This Wheel's on Fire was the opening track on Dr. Byrds.

Well now this is interesting -- Jaydee Maness and Lloyd Green just got done re-recording the songs from that album in Nashville. And the feeling was that Hillman and McGuinn weren't interested in celebrating the album's 50th anniversary, but I guess that might be changing.

And as good as Marty Stuart is on B-Bender (and is a great musician with a great band), Clarence White wasn't on that album.

But this is great news for Sweetheart fans!!

I read the attached article this morning in the San Francisco Chronicle about the upcoming tour stop at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga (a very exclusive suburb of San Jose).

Roger McGuinn is interviewed about Sweetheart and it's place in music history, and as one can see from the publicity photo, no sign of Lloyd Green, Jay Dee Maness, or Gary Carter. I'm thinking the "steel parts" are going to be provided by Marty on the former Clarence White owned Parsons/White Stringbender Tele. Unless they do some instrument switching during the set and Chris Scruggs provides some steel, which is a real possibility.

We have tickets to see the show this coming Wed. the 25th. in L.A. We're curious to know if there will be a steel player as well.

Chris Scruggs is a fantastic steel player. Although I'd love to see Lloyd and/or Jaydee he would do the parts justice. I can't imagine NOT having a steel for those shows.

Chris Scruggs plays bass in Marty's band. I would doubt any steel playing on his part.
Shows in LA seem to be sold out. I've seen scalper prices at $400 each.

I can't really imagine it either, and as I wrote earlier perhaps Chris will supply some steel, but I would be surprised if he plays a lot of steel in the show. But after all, we're Steel Guitar Forum people. So we're not discussing the same thing in anticipation of the shows that most who will be attending are thinking. Different frame of reference.

The last time I saw Marty and His Fabulous Superlatives was several months ago, and Chris played his Fender non-pedal on exactly one song.

Though there will be a certain percentage of people in the audience for this tour who are hip to Lloyd and Jay Dee and their roles on the original album, I'm thinking the vast majority will have little or no clue.

And because the Clarence B-bender Tele is such a characteristic part of the Byrds sound over their final 4-5 years as a band I think many in the (older) audience would identify with that as much or in some cases even more than the pedal steel. Never mind that White didn't even use the device on the couple of songs on which he played on Sweetheart.

Wish I could go, and even though the Bay Area tour stop is in my general region, my wife and I decided to pass prior to the tickets going on sale.

it's close to 2 1/2 hours each way at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, an exclusive suburb of San Jose. And a Sunday night. And work early Monday morning for my wife and I. And the cost of tickets, gas, meals,etc. And we chewed up our concert budget for July by seeing Ry Cooder at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco last Friday evening which by the way -

was worth every penny!

Hey - I did a great job there of talking myself out of going to see the Sweetheart concert.

I'm going to this show Tuesday night in LA. I was hoping for LOADS of steel guitar, but I'm also a big Marty fan; saw him live on the Way Out West tour and loved every minute.

I'll report back about the amounts of steel in the show.

Despite being a fan and having followed the DRB back in the mid 1980s near everywhere they played in California and later on the East Coast, don't plan to see this tour. I would love to go to see them at the Town Hall in NYC despite the 5.5 hour drive from Vermont, but ticket prices are nuts and outside of my budget for sure. And no pedal steel?!! The ticket price range for the NYC show is $277 -$377 (https://www1.ticketmaster.com/event/030 ... ll_website )

Maybe there will be a video released from the tour that I can watch for a bit less.
