Anyone tried a Cozart lap steel ?
Just ran across an ad for a Cozart D6 lap steel...for under $200 ????
Doesnt seem possible to me for it to be of any quality, but I thought I would ask you guys if you have ever owned one or tried one.....you would think that you would have to do a lot of upgrades to it to make it playable and sound good...tuners, electronics, nut bridge, etc....
Might be a good travle lap steel...i dunno
thanks in advance for any opinions.

Imagine two Rogue steels glued together. That's it. Necks are flush/level. Cheapest parts and electronics. I have one that I had to take in on a big multi-instrument deal. It's loaned out to someone who's doing a series of weekend college town dive bar gigs through the end of the year. I sold him a mint Rickenbacker 208 console which can stay home and stay mint. Anything happens to this Cozart who cares. I figure I have under $100 in it. If I just GAVE it to you it would cost more than that in shipping. When I get it back after Christmas it'll be sold or traded just to get it out of here. Save your money.
Related Cozart matter. I bought a brand new Cozart sorta Bigsby copy during Covid. I knew the tailpiece was no good and had a copy Bigsby for it. My tech had to do a LOT of neck and fret work on it though. Expect the worst...you won't be disappointed.

Well stated, Mr. Allen. My sentiments exactly on the entry-level Asian lap steels cobbled together from surplus bottom-end knock-off Telecaster components in Asian sweatshops by 12 year-old girls. And now, with the added expense of tariffs? Uh-uh.

I bought one a while back and let me tell you, it is a real piece of junk! The scale is way too short. The strings are less than 1/4" above the fret board. No matter what I did I could not intonate it well enough to play. I added a string lifter on the nuts but that really didn't help. After several weeks of frustration, I threw it in the trash!
I have also owned an electric mandolin from them, and it was awesome. I later sold it for more than I paid for it.
