The Second Annual Sacred Steel Convention will be held at the Sanford Convention Center, Sanford, FL--about 20 minutes from Orlando--March 30 and 31, 2001. Producer Marcus Hardy has secured a website, sacred steel convention.com, and will be posting details soon.
The following players have verbally committed: Campbell Bros, Aubrey Ghent, Robert Randolph, Marcus Randolph, Ray Ray Holloman, Kim Love, Acorne Coffee, Flip Coffee, Lonnie "Big Ben" Bennett, Calvin Cooke, David Fonville, Denard Elliott, Willie Eason, Josh Taylor, Chris Brinson, Dan Tyack, Elton Noble, Dante Harmon, Darryl Blue, Johnny Dudley. We expect at least dozen more to commit as plans develop.
New this year will be several players from the Jewell Dominion, including Footie Covington, Kim Love and her brothers Ronnie and Robert--all great musicians. The Jewell tradition is built on rhythmic boogies and shuffles, accelerating tempos, 6 or 8-string lap steel and heavy doses of wah pedal. They favor those giant old chrome Morleys.
Negotiations are underway with Carter Steels--who will be offering a special "Sacred Steel" line--and Peavey to participate. Other vendors are invited as well.
Marcus Hardy may be copntacted at: Sjimmysatin@aol.com
Stay tuned to the Forum for future info.
