Fostex MKII 8 track recorder

Post by Fred Rushing »

I have a MKII that I am just beginning to use. I can record, mix, and convert the File to a wav format just like the books shows. When I connect to my computer and look at my drives I can see my external drive which is my MKII. I see the files and I can play the files on the computer. When I try to burn to a disc I get the individuale tracks recorded first and then I also get the finished product track burned on the CD. So i end up with 5 tracks along with the Final mixed track. Have not been able to figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Fred

Fred, sounds like an easy fix, move the files from the Fostex to your PC. Create a folder on the PC for the tracks and move the files from the Fostex into that folder.

When you burn your CD , access that folder and only select the file you want on the CD. I am thinking that all of the files are available when you burn direct from the Fostex and that's why they all arrive on the CD.

Another reason to move the files to the PC Folder is for backup, plus it is always better to "burn" from within the PC rather than over the USB connection which can hick-up.

Post some stuff , we would love to hear what you are doing !

Tony you are correct. I am having a problem transferring the files from the MKII to my folder in the computer. I am not up to to speed on this stuff. I have vista on my computer and I have not attempted much of this kind of operation. I have to do some research on transferring files. By the way I did not get back to you to thank you for your insight on the Carter and Emmons. Been a little busy here. I will see what I can do about transferring the files to a folder which is what I wanted to do in the begining. The little Fostex has amazingly good quality too. Thanks Fred

Hi Fred, not to worry. I wish I could see whats happening with the file transfer thing, you can't go into explorer and do a copy or a move ? I have not used Vista, I'll make that change in another 20 years or so. Until then I'll just live in this XP defunct mode of operation.

Recording time on Fostex MKII

Post by Fred Rushing »

I am getting better with this little machine but I am learning the hardway I think. If you use the 128MB card that comes with this it says you should have APPROX 12 mins. recording time. I guess that translates to 2 tracks using 12 min. of total time from start to mix to a wav downloadable file. Am I thanking correctly?
Looks like if you use 2 mins for 2 tracks then bounce to tracks 7/8 that uses 4 mins and then convert to a wav file stereo thats 4 more mins which takes a total of 12 mins to make that recording and down load to your computer. Am I right about this? Help Help. thanks Fred
