Making cds

Post by Joe Rouse »

I know I am showing my ignorance once again but here I go...I have bought a Zoom H1 recorder for several small chores I have to do at times. I am wanting to record my practice sessions and transfer to a cd and take the cd to my weekly lesson to have my teacher critique my playing. I also want to record my lesson and download the lesson to a cd to play as I practice etc.
I have recorded my playing and have opened a folder in my computer but cannot download the music to the cd. I thought that I might be using the wrong format and and switched from the wav to mp3 with no luck.
Any suggestions would be appreciated....jr

Joe, so your sayin you can record with the H2 and can download the recordings to a folder on your computer? If so, and you've burned music CD's then the procedure would be the same. Either wav or mp3 format will work as the burner will recognize either format and will convert them to burn to a CD.

I don't know if Roxio will convert an MP3 to wav for "audio" CD burning. If you want a standard "Audio" CD and NOT an MP3 CD you may have to convert the MP3 to wav first.

But, in any case you copy whatever is on the recorder to the PC hard drive first and then make the CD from the file on the hard drive. you don't go direct from the recorder, through the PC to the CD burner drive.

I do a lot of support on the Dell users forum, but I haven't seen the latest Roxio V10 "DE" (Dell Edition)" and don't know how it is setup. In older Roxio versions you select "Create an Audio Disc" to make a standard audio CD and select your saved recorder file as the file to burn. It should have a separate function list for MP3 or you can just create a "Data Disc" and if the saved recorder file(s) is in MP3 format you can select that file(s) to burn.

When you create a standard "audio" CD, use standard CD-R blanks (not CD-RW and you don't need the more expensive "music" CD-R's). Keep the CD burning speed to 16X or lower (most new SATA burner drives will not go lower than 16X). If you burn it at the full speed of the CD burner it may not play in all standard audio CD players.

Although I too use Nero, there is no need to buy another CD/DVD burning program. The Roxio will serve your purpose.

Thank you Jack. I'll make the data disc and see what happens. As you said I thought I could go from the H1 through the computer and to the cd. Thank all of you gentlemen for the help...jr

Joe - I have a Zoom H2.
I upload files from Zoom into computer's Music Folder, and then use Windows Media Player to burn those same files to CD.
