Arlan "Red" Clinton Barnes

Post by Bill Rowlett »

Many of you knew Red from his Western Swing days in California. I'm sorry to say that he passed away last month. I played with Red and his daughter Helen on and off for 10 years and always enjoyed his humor.

Other Arkansas forum players that I'm aware of who played with Red were Rudy Osborne, Joe Finley and Robert Jones.

Red was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame in 1997. For many years, he worked locally with a fine Arkansas vocalist named Billy Carter.

I posted a couple pictures that I have; one from a dance in 2001 and one from a benefit last year (red Emmon's), which was the last time that I played with him.

Rest in Peace...

Bill
