Cowboy Doug Davis passed away last Friday in Fredericksburg, TX. He was a great friend and teacher, mentor to many, many musicians over the years. I am proud to have called him my friend.

Here's one obit:

Doug was a dear pal for many years and I was a "Note Roper" for many gigs. He was very fatalistic about his disease and chose to forego treatment. His condition was very advanced by the time he became aware of its seriousness anyway. I will miss him dearly.

Thanks for your memories, Herb... I was at the Luckenbach picker's circle last night, held in honor of Doug, wonderful folks all brought together by Doug. Bill Lewis (the Real Bill Lewis) is now custodian of the Sunday circle; as Doug's best friend I can't imagine a better person to take it over.

I regret never getting to meet Cowboy Doug. I'm sure if I had I would have had a friend for life. RIP Doug Caldwell "Cowboy" Davis.
