Julian Bream
An adventurous, brilliant guitarist and lute player. His ears were a lot more wide open to all genres of music than many classical musicians. He played jazz, rock and Indian classical music. He was a very musical player, not just a technician - and a big Django fan!

His dad was a jazz guitarist and thought Julian would never make a career playing classical. “There is only one classical guitarist in the world, and it can’t support two.” When accepted at music college, he was told to keep his guitar at home and focus on piano. He refused and dropped out of school instead. When told his lute playing was inauthentic based on new scholarship, he stopped playing lute until he could master the correct techniques. And when he broke his arm, he had them reset it in optimum position to play guitar.
