I picked up an Emmons GS-10 this week after finding a good deal. I've been a guitar player for almost 25 years, picked up lap steel a couple years ago. I started on a 1941 Kalamazoo and quickly realized I couldn't really play most of the country music I was hoping to. I stayed with it for a few months and learned some good stuff but quickly ran out of instructional material. I plan on talking to Billy Cooper about some lessons on both the musical and mechanical aspects. Yall have a really good forum here, I'm grateful to be a part of it.
My first steel was a 1974 Emmons GS-10. I got it when I was eighteen and I loved playing it. I've now been playing steel for 25 years. I started playing in 1999
Welcome to the instrument and the forum! Close to Billy Cooper's shop-great shop, great man and player. I had a lesson or two, he wouldn't commit to regular lessons with me; he's in his 80's now. But certainly pay a visit and see. Consider Paul Franklin course-lots up front but tons of material. YouTube has been my teacher.

Your post was one of the many I found doing research before I pulled the trigger on this guitar. I found you in Instagram and gave you a follow too.

That's what everyone said when I was researching this guitar. I know those GFIs play good and all but the vintage steels were always the ones that really spoke to me.

I visited Billy's shop a while back looking for lap steel tablature and they are wonderful people!
