Simmons SD-10--Your Thoughts

Post by Samuel Taber »

Hello--

I'm a musician in the market for my first pedal steel--looking forward to joining you all on this journey!
I found a Simmons SD-10 (3x4) at a local music store for a reasonable price in my range, and I'd like to go ahead and jump on it.
It seems to be in good working order.

At the suggestion of Chris Brooks--a friend and bandmate-- I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts about the instrument or experiences that would seem pertinent before purchasing it? I'm also wondering if folks know whether the guitar (from circa 2015) would be likely to have a pull-release system or an all-pull system.

Appreciative of your time and glad to be part of the community!

Thank you,
Sam Taber

The Simmons will be a Pull/Release changer system and the guitars as built are stable and play well. Mr Simmons Passed in late 2023 I helped him for the last several years build the guitars and can probably help you out with questions you may have.
These guitars as most can be overtuned and there are No Splits.

Barry,

I really appreciate the response--especially given your relationship to Mr. Simmons and the instruments. I've heard and read similarly that they're stable, well-made etc. It will be a privilege to play on one. Thank you for the info re: the pull-release system and splits. I'll reach out if need be!

Thanks again,
Sam

You are more than welcome Samuel. Attached is a tuning guide Mr Simmons Included with new guitars. It is in his own hand and can be very helpful.

Hi Barry!
Really appreciate your chiming in; and the tuning guide is just what Sam will need if he decides to buy the Simmons. BTW, Sam is an excellent keyboard player who will bring a lot of musical knowledge to learning steel. It's always good when someone takes up our wild 'n' crazy instrument. Chris
