Sweet Dreams

This may not be the exact place to ask, but I would like to find a recording of someone using steel to back up a singer on "Sweet Dreams". I know several people use different approaches to it, and I would like to have a listen on what someone else has done with it. Any suggestions? Jerry Maranville

That tune is a guaranteed train wreck on the bandstand, especially since Emmylou Harris put out a record with half of the chords wrong.

Hows about Buddy Emmons with Faron Young ca. 1956 on Capitol !? It's my all time favorite version

Did anyone ever hear the steel intro Don Gibson used on his MGM recording? It has been a long time since I heard it but, I understand that Faron hummed the intro to Buddy and he came up with the "Trademark" intro which was almost, if not identical to Don's version. I picked up this bit of info from earlier postings about "Sweet Dreams".

The chords for "Sweet Dreams" in the key of D are; (G/A7) are split measure chords 2 beats each etc.

Check out Rob Parker's "Sweet Dreams" album which features a bunch of Hall of Famers and just generally great pickers. My understanding is that this album was released with at least part of the proceeds going to a retirement-like fund for the steel players.

Anyway the version of "Sweet Dreams" on there is really wonderful. I'm not where I can look at who played it but it is really nice.

Also the Ozark Steel Assoc., has an instructional tape with a beautiful rendition of the song on it.
