Santo & Johnny, Johnny's New CD

Post by Craig Stock »

I got a link to this from a music website Luxuriamusic.com. Looks like Johnny Farina has a new CD out. Thought people might be interested.

Interesting....but I wonder what happened to santo, the ORIGINAL player of "Sleepwalk"
I miss his fluidity.

Basil, the latest I heard, about three yrs back was that Santo stayed in Italy. The boys had been there for mant yrs. BTW,the cassette shown is not new. I got mine two or three yrs ago when Johnny returned to the states.

With all due respect to Johnny , I'm not comfortable with the implication on the "sleepwalk" web site that Santo WAS the sound. Personally I think his rythmn playing was integral BUT the playing of SANTO was their sound.
Johnny's attempt at re-creation is admirable....but falls far short of the original.IMHO.
Baz.

BTW I'm not too happy to post this but feel motivated by my love and admiration of the originality shown by them on their prior recordings.
I owe them a lot , as their version of "Sleepwalk" was probably the biggest influence on my playing the steel guitar , (other than the "Hawaii Calls" regulars).
