Morpheus vs. Napster?

Post by Chris Schlotzhauer »

I need some info fairly quick, so Forumites are the one's to ask. I came home the other night after a gig, and my son and his friend were all excited about the new program put out by MusicCity.com called Morpheus. It's a peer-to-peer file sharing software like Napster, only you can file share MP3 files, videos and, I think movies. I know there was a ton of discussion on this forum about Napster, both pro and con, so I don't want to get into that. What I need to know is this. I was reading the Morpheus policy, and it states that some fees apply, but without downloading the program, I'm not sure what my son did, or agreed to in my behalf, to download the program at home. Is anyone familiar with Morpheus? Is this a pay site? Just wait 'till Dad gets home!

Morpheus is a like-kind situation to Napster. However, Napster has reached some agreements with the music industry and will be available once again for a fee in the near future. I don't doubt that the industry already has its' sights on Morpheus but unless there is some "members only" area that requires a credit card or some other type of billing, Morpheus is no charge to the user.
