Cold Brown Bottle

Post by Bill Terry »

Somebody in the band came up with this tune, the version we learned is by somebody named Joe Eddie Goff. It's got a nice snappy little steel part, who's the player??? For that matter who is Joe Eddie Goff???

If he's famous, pardon my ignorance Image

BTW, here's a link to the tune... Oops.. took the link off, not sure if that's legal or not.

Aw what the heck... cool tune here's the link again, maybe somebody will know for sure http://home.austin.rr.com/bterrypsg/cbb.mp3

The song was originally done by Walt,jr. and his band in the 70's with I believe the bass player on the vocal. The steel player could have been Fred Heine. I worked with Walt some years later and he used "Cold Brown Bottle" as his signature song. Maybe Dr. Bowman will see this post and shed some light on the steel player. Jody.PS . Golf may have been the bass player.
[This message was edited by Jody Sanders on 31 October 2001 at 08:38 PM.]

the label (TNB 102, a nashville label, produced by justin tubb) says "walt jr. and the country division"; written and sung by joe eddie gough.

also done in 1980 on a single by tony booth, with gene watson and russ reeder producing for the rds label, most likely from houston.

So, Goff = Gough. I had a response from another forumite about the Tony Booth version as well. The version I linked definitely has a 70's sort of production so I guess it's the original one. Anyhow, it's a fun song to play.
