Dickie Betts w/ Dan Toler

Post by Jeff A. Smith »

A friend of mine found out on the net that the guitarist Betts had been playing with left to pursue his own thing. (What a unique happening.. Image) Apparently Dan Toler is playing with Betts again. Has anybody heard anything about this, or seen them play yet?

Sounds like a good pairing to me. I saw the Allman Brothers a few times back when those two were playing together.

I think it will be. The critique on Toler was that he often sounded too much like Betts, but I'm thinking he may have developed more of his own identity in blues-rock since back then. He was always able to play neat jazzy things that sounded like himself, like on "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." I also saw Toler on tour with Gregg Allman around the time that "I'm No Angel" was a hit. He was the only guitarist, and sounded great.

I have a couple Dickey Betts albums with 'Dangerous' Dan Toler on them "Atlanta's Burnin' Down, and the self titled one. They were good records.

I own those albums too!! good stuff! I really liked his playing on the Allman Brothers "Enlightened Rogues" album. I don't listen to rock much, but this is about as good as it gets.
