Dick Miller? Cathy Taylor?

Post by Jason Odd »

Another writer has been swapping info with me and asked about two performers in the Ca scene, Dick Miller and Cathie (Cathy) Taylor.
I'm really only familiar with them due to the fact that they both recorded for Toppa Records in the early 1960s.

Apparently Dick Miller who worked c&w clubs around here in the early 60's. He is apparently deceased and some people recall him, but not well enough to know who worked with him.

Cathie Taylor: grew up in north central Calif, moved to L.A. area and was voted CMA most promising female vocalist circa 1968. Had releases on Columbia, was in a hootenany film, in the 70's went to Nashville and sang on 700 Club. She also had a Wisconsin based labell release, not to mention the Toppa single in the early 1960s, which might be a kid recording. Toppa did that, a very young Don Holiman also did a single before he was out of High School or even in a band!

Hey Jason,
A couple of bands I worked with in LA did a Dick Miller tune called "Straighten Up and Make Room for the blues" or something like that. I don't think I ever met him but there was a lot of haze in them daze for sure. By the way, I haven't forgot that B.Austin tape, my turntables been down due to a bad needle but I have one now and you'll be getting it soon.

Hiya Jerry, I just got an email from Dick Miller who is alive and well.
There are at least three Dick Miller's, and my fellow writer was trying to work out which was which, a hard topic when one considers that they all recorded around the same time, and no biography had showed on any of them.

Still, I would like to say sorry to Dick for the somewhat overly-premature reports of his demise. Please forgive my mistake.
