saw George Jones in concert yesterday!!!

Post by Jason Powers »

I got to finally see the ole Possum yesterday at the Little Nashville Opry. I was very honored to get to see him since he has been my favorite singer since I was about 7 years old. Great show, nothing fancy, just an hour and a half of good traditional country music, the way it should be. In fact, when he first came out, he said, "At my age, don't expect me to be bustin' no guitars or swinging from no ropes!!!" The Jones Boys plus the guy and gal that tour with them, Sherry and Barry Smith, came out and did 45 minutes on their own. Ron Gaddis, George's longtime bass player and harmony singer, is a fine traditional country singer in his own right. Then George did an hour and a half, which to be honest, was more than I expected, but I was glad. George's steel player, Tom Killen, was awesome too, but I would have like to heard him a little better. Jones was not pleased with the people running the sound board, and did everything but come right out and tell them so. But, I had a great time, and got to take some of my closest friends too!!! Yes George Jones is still the best country singer around. I used to work for him back in the very late 50's around 59 or 60. But someone stole me steel guitar and amp while I was changing clothes and that ended my gig with him.
