I hope he's proven innocent. I hate to think of him coming to such a bad end.

I've long had the impression he was a majorly bent dude who needed some smacking around. Hope he gets it.

Oh my God! Phil Spector went to my high school! He was Class of '58, I was Class of '65.

Anyway, does this mean gangs of angry white guys in Beverly HIlls are going to be pulling truckdrivers out of their cabs and beating the crap out of them?!

Was there a slow-motion chase down Rodeo Drive with Spector in a BMW convertible and an entourage of black-and-whites with lights and sirens?

Inquiring minds want to know... Image

Things like this baffle me. I remember back in the 70s he shot a gun into the ceiling while high on coke. But this is the same guy who produced Rose in Spanish Harlem and River Deep, Mountain High, works of great beauty. The title producer is probably deceptive as he was more like a band leader/arranger when he made his "little symphonies for the kids". You never can tell.

he's taking the fact that the beatles are re-releasing "Let It Be" without all his added "touches" a little harsh.......

The word we always got on Spector on the Island from folks who should know is that he was a nutcase from the word go. I heard some stories about how he treated Ronnie Spector when they were married that would curl your hair. I heard some more when I moved out here. I can't say this surprises me at all. Even the anecdotes about him I've read in books have been fairly unflattering except as to his musical touch.

Of course, we don't know the facts...but I have a hard time not thinking the wrost.

I met Spector once in 1969. I knew who he was of course, but I didn't realize I was talking to him at the time. I was working in a record store in Hollywood, and he came in and asked something about about Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep Mountain High" I told him I thought it was a great record and should have been a big hit. The next day there was a package for me at the store with a thank you note and a test pressing of the LP which was released shortly thereafter. I still have the record.

If I may be allowed to repeat myself, I hope it turns out he's innocent.

The dead woman is Lana Clarkson, A B-movie star most well known for Amazon Women on the Moon. She did many, many TV shows and commercials. Allegedly, she and Spector met at House of Blues, and she went home with him. Police arrived about 5AM after the driver heard shots and called them. She was found dead in the foyer in a pool of blood.

Charges are expected soon. Spector made $1 million bond and is staying with friends.

Sounds bad....

"And before the day was out, the mayor of South Gate (a Los Angeles suburb) clocked a fellow council member with an overhead punch before a standing-room-only crowd, then accused the councilman of fondling her breast."......"Councilman Henry Gonzalez, the guy who was slugged by Mayor Ruvalcaba in a silly dispute over a citizen's request to address the council, was shot in the head in 1999 while mayor. That case remains a whodunit.

There is more decorum at a cockfight than at the average municiple meeting in South Gate, where a federal corruption probe is underway and where the city treasurer recently beat charges that he threatened to rape a state senator and kill her husband

"A bullet bounced off my head, so I can take a punch," Gonzalez said in a post-fight interview in which he denied fondling Ruvalcaba's breast in the tussle."---Steve Lopez, LA Times

Is this a great city or what?.....

I was always one of those who hoped that Phil might do one last cool production, he's always remained a big fave of mine.

Mike, that's a cool story about Phil, I suppose the most people saw of him in 1969 was that cameo in Easy Rider.

I too hope it wasn't Phil, but it looks really bad at this time.

Mike, in your first post, you say you "hope he's proven innocent." This is very different than Tony Prior's comment,"I hope he's innocent."
Do you hope Spector's not a murderer, or that he, like other rich famous guys, GETS AWAY WITH MURDER?????????

'Cause you made such an idiotic statement. Hey, if Spector's innocent, I hope he's found "not guilty." But if he's murdered somebody, then PLEASE, LET HIM BE FOUND GUILTY, and face whatever punishment the court hands out. And I'm a huge fan of his musical accomplishments, just like you.

As we all know, and as Herb Steiner alluded to above, in the State of California (and especially in LA) the issue of whether someone IS guilty does not always have a logical relation to whether that person is FOUND guilty in a court of law. 'Course, as Herb also alluded to, since Mr. Spector is a white man, then the defense won't have any reason to exclude every white person from the jury box, which in turn means that, if in fact the evidence shows that Mr. Spector is guilty then most likely he'll be found guilty. Wow..I sure hope there is No White Ford Broncho in this scenario?? where's Mark Fuhrman??. I dont think I could handle another one of these mysteries.

Kato Katlin..is that how he spells his name?

Is there a black glove missing? Maybe its at WalMart with my Levis Image I dont know why I do this,,I think I'm bored. Im gonna get a day job at Walmart. Why you guys getting ticked off at Mike? this is a discussion and we are all friends.

I'll bet if some sax player or another musician other than steel guitar were to have a fight on their hands, you would all stick together. This is a fun place,no enemies here. Life is too short. I doubt he will be "not guilty" too much points to his
guilt. A crime of passion.
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 06 February 2003 at 05:47 PM.]

Ellroy, yes Black Dahlia was inspired by a real unsolved murder.
City of Angels.. okay I can dig that to.

Stephen, dude.. you cannot possibly know Mike to ask that question.
I hope that ol' Phil is innocent, but when I say it looks bad, it looks like Phil had a hand in it.
