....and what about that rent-a-crowd they'd imported and put in the front row!!!!?

Not the most subtle performers, are they? I imagine that M/G would describe their antics as 'entertainment'; I fear that they'll qualify for some sort of award when the next contrived CMT 'ceremony' is foisted upon us.

That was as bad as anything I've seen on the Opry.
[This message was edited by Roger Rettig on 02 June 2003 at 04:54 AM.]

How come Lorrie Morgan sang "that song" for her husband, and then thanked everybody but ol' Sammy? Is it time for a new husband yet?

I was there at the Opry that night. While Montgomery Gentry's music is definitely not what I prefer, I will say this. I had the chance to meet Eddie Montgomery while I was backstage, and he certainly was a nice, friendly, courteous fellow.

Actually, ALL the performers that I met that night were extremely cordial, down to earth folks. To be honest, I was a bit surprised.

I was tickled by what one of the two guys said in their interview with KC - "With us, what you see is what you get!"

How depressingly true...

My cousin Fred is also a nice, courteous, friendly fellow, although he couldn't carry a tune in a wheelbarrow.
He is, however, quite the hit at parties when he puts the lampshade on his head and dances around.
Perhaps he has a future as one of the luminaries of 21st century music.

Ray Jenkins,

If you're referring to the steel player for Montgomery Gentry, that was Randy Sorrells from the Atlanta area. Even though he doesn't get to show it with M/G, he is one of the best steel guitarist around.

It looked like M/G had taken his hand gestures straight out of the books of BET TV. Now that's just what the Opry needs, another Eminem or Ice T. I like the tune but why would anybody want to emulate that? This must be the "agressive" or "in your face" brand of country music today. Hopefully it'll pass on with disco and bubble gum! What happend to Artist/Development in the country music industry?

John & James, I never said his being nice, courteous etc... had anything to do with music or their success. I was simply stating a fact, that regardless of his music, he was a nice guy to talk with. Traditional country is, and always has been, my preference.

I guess I'm in the minority as I really enjoyed Montgomery/Gentry and have since they came out. I like that rockin' country sound a whole bunch. I do however agree with Carl West that he should do away with that d@mn mike stand thing he does... Image Image
