Ok . I was talking to my friend John Fabian the other day and I told him this story and we both laughed ..and then he said it belongs on the Forum .
The set-up:
As many may know, I returned to Steel a little over 2 years ago from a long ( 12 years) self inflicted layoff..
I pretty much have a regular practice routine and I have also started some recording of tracks and such..
I generally am up very early daily and spend a few minutes practicing before I start my day. I very often record my practice sessions and burn a CD and listen to them while driving for critique..I just write on the CD with a black marker and my van is full of these little practice CD's.
In recent months I have recorded a few tunes which are also on a few CD's all over the place , the house, the cars, whatever..
The Story: the truth too...
A week or two ago my wife ( bless her heart ) is out in my van and she calls me and says , "Man, this latest CD of your is incredible, these early morning practice sessions are really paying off, I had no idea that you were playing this good "..
Of course I'm feeling pretty hyped by now, so I asked, "What are you listening to " ?
She says " the new one you wrote, and I love the title, Minors Aloud ...it's awsome.."
It was right about now my ego took a leave of absence..
So I said " Dear I love ya..but lets get serious here.. what do you think of the guitar playing on the cd ? "
She says " Oh , it's great too..but you've always been pretty good on guitar "
Then I said " And what about the Bass playing and the drum tracks ?"
This is when she was starting to come to reality " She said, well thats what I was wondering about "...
I then advised her that yes "Minors Aloud" was a great title for a song that someone else wrote and played..
she asked who..
and of course this was the point I had to fess up and tell her she was listening to Buddy...
She says..
" OOhhhh..no wonder you sounded so good, it wasn't you..it was Buddy !"
Thanks dear...
I put my Steel albums on CD as well and just write on the CD in marker..
