I don't know who's pickin' with Earl. Last week he had a new CD and DVD released called The Three Pickers Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson and Ricky Skaggs.
It would be nice if they did that trio on the Opry this weekend.
[This message was edited by Alvin Blaine on 24 July 2003 at 03:27 PM.]

Alvin, Ricky Skaggs is appearing in Lyons, CO this Saturday for a large annual international Bluegrass festival known as "Rockygrass". I think it is an evening performance.

Whether you like the artist or not, the "least" I would think this forum could give is support for a fellow steel player. The last I checked, this was still called the "Steel Guitar Forum".
I have dealt with this kind of "biased crap" from this forum about the Opry for years now. Too many people with biases toward artist overlook good players simply because they don't like who they work for. If you don't like a particular artist, fine! You have a right to your "opinions/preferences," just don't forget the pickers who back them up trying to do their very best at their job.
Your support means a lot more to these pickers than you might realize. And remember, those pickers are the ones who have to deal with the artist, like it or not. Not you!
Go get 'em, Wayne!
Billy and Donna, see ya tonight at the Opry.

Thanks to artists such as Dave, Johnny, PeeWee, Donna Tommy, Mike, Wayne and many I enjoy but just don't know their name(trying to find out) who provide us with outstanding steel each Fri. & Sat. on the Opry stage. I like the breaks, but I really listen for those tremendous intro's, backup lines and closings. When the tv show is not on, there is a lot of solid country music throughout the rest of the program. Thanks to all of you pickers for the great job you do. Each of you complement the artist in an excellent manner and help them to get the best sound possible on each song. Thanks again!

Dave you are so right. You and many, many players (not just steel)have the God given talent and skills to be on the OPRY in the first place.I don,t know what I,d give to back one artist on just one song on the opry, but that wiil never be. I must add any artist even Kid Rock

I like what Dave wrote, even more what Billy wrote. I didn't especially care for Rachel Proctor but she wasn't offensive and Tommy White did back her up. Also, Wayne Dahl is one fine gentleman besides being a class act steel player. Didn't Donna Hammitt sound great tonight also? There certainly was no problem with tone from anyone playing tonight. It was a good show but the bassoon was a little flat.
......The way Martina screams when she gets into a song makes me fantasize about her!!

Martina, screams with her mouth, thats her style. kitty Wells sang through her nose, that was her style. today the screams beat the nose singing. Willma Lee Cooper could whale out a song without screamming(and without a mike
) and not with her nose, got to love her. Joe
[This message was edited by Joe Miraglia on 26 July 2003 at 07:42 PM.]

Am I different? I dont worry so much about how some one sings on the Opry as much as I listen for great steel, which I heard W/ Donna & Wayne, Mr. Anderson was never a great singer but always had the greatest steel in all his songs, I was blown away by the Great Chord arrangement on Bills first song & Donna was right there on all of them. & Wayne finally had a chance to show his greatness, like I said earlier, much better than last week! kr
[This message was edited by kyle reid on 26 July 2003 at 11:52 PM.]

Dave,
You put it very well. I feel that at times I may have said things about the Opry and the artists. But I hope I never dis-credit any player. If it wern't for the players the artists would be in a state of hurt.
I've always felt that players never get enough credit. Some artist acknowledge their players on a regular basis and I respect them for that. They all should.
As for Wayne, he's a great picker and did an excellent job. Donna as well.
Good post Dave.
