Alex Depew with Chris Cagle

Post by Kevin Hatton »

We did a show with Chris Cagle last night. If you ever get a chance to see Chris Cagle look for Alex Depew. The man is a fiddler/violinist par excellance. At the top of his game. Very impressive. Great musician.

Amen to that! Alex and I have several things recorded together for a new C.D. We have been recording together on and off for the last five years or so. The tunes on the new C.D. have been recorded in the last 18 months. Alex is an incredible player, classically trained, unbelievable rock and bop chops. BTW, He is featured on Herby Wallace's latest C.D. too. Alex has been on the ISGC main stage with Herbie. He played in the house band at LT Zinn's show before joining Cagle.

He has a solo CD.

BTW Kevin, Alex's 3rd C.D. is due out soon. I am honored that he chose one of my compositions to be included. This may be a better link to my website to hear Alex. Check his playing on the tune "Spanglish". The tune was pretty much done live except for my gut string solo and the "fuzz" steel. www.geocities.com/frsteel
[This message was edited by frank rogers on 04 August 2003 at 10:38 AM.]

Last I knew Cagle was not carrying steel. I talk to Alex regularly and he hasn't mentioned it. Also, Chris' records are practically devoid of steel. Heavy fiddle and distorted guitars.

I've heard Alex Depew on several occasions.
He's a pretty good fiddler, but I personally find him a bit long on theatrics and short on harmonic knowledge.
I've never met him, but I'm sure he's a very nice person.

Unfortunately, I don't think that Cagle's music lends itself to pedal steel. I don't think that it would have contributed alot. Very high energy. Just my opinion.
[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 04 August 2003 at 01:46 PM.]

John,
You should have been a diplomat. Image

Yes, the CC band doesn't have a Steel.
I suppose Kevin's right. It's not for everyone.

I remember a thread about two yrs ago, that C.C. had said he had the best band in Country music & that he didn't need no stinkin steel guitar. How many saw that?
