My Dad has a 78 by Darby & Tarlton containing "Columbus Stockade Blues and Birmingham Jail" It has some good Dobro or slide by Jimmie Tarlton in the country blues style.

I believe Merle Watson references them in one of his guitar book/lessons.

Darby & Tarlton were one of the influential duos in the late 20's/early 30's. I think some of their recordings are on the Old Timey LP "Steel Guitar Classics".

Kind Regards, Walter

Great stuff! There was a Jimmie Tarlton CD issued a couple of years ago that I keep meaning to buy. But everything I've heard by D & T has been haunting. Highly recommended!

I just bought the Jimmie Tarlton cd "Steel Guitar Rag" and the Darby & Tarlton cd "Ooze It Up To Me" Real early country blues sound on just a regular guitar played "lap style" on ebay and Amazon. My dad had me record onto a cassette from an old cracked 78 so I'm sure he'll like these 2 cd's and me too.

Jimmie Tarlton was one of the first steel players to play steel guitar on country recordings in the thirties. Brett

Their names and "Columbus Stockade Blues" are engraved and mentioned in the memorial plaque on front of the old Columbus penitentiary. Check http://www.historicalcolumbus.homestead.com/stockade.html
