Grand Ole Opry, December 30, 1950
Thanks to Joey for the wonderful memories by sharing the Grand Ole Opry programe with us. I have checked my old papers and found that I have a lot of old stage scripts from the Opry from the early 50’s. I can imagine you thinking “where did he get that from?”. A good friend of my Dad studied in the U.S. at the time and, being a country music fan, became friend with Red Foley and several of his musicians (incl. Billy Robinson). One of the highlights of his study time was a trip to Nashville (in a plane that Foley had chartered) and a guest appearance at the Opry.
They used those scripts for all the different segments of the show and, of course, after the show just threw them away. My Dad’s friend asked if he could have them and took a lot of them with him. He finally gave them to me and I keep them as a real treasure.
There is one from the “Royal Crown Cola” show on December 30, 1950 (9:00 to 9:30 pm). Presented by Cousin Louie Buck and Ott Devine, front page has the approval of Vito Pelletieri. Artists on that show were Roy Acuff, Brother Oswald, Jimmy Riddle, Hank Snow (his band was called “Snowflakes” back then!, he substituted for ET), Lonzo & Oscar, Fruit Jar Drinkers, Jamup & Honey and the Le Croix Sisters. Interesting to note several cross outs and hand written additions.
I will try to scan it in and make it available for all of you to view...
Kind Regards, Walter
