Marrs recording studio-Madison Tennessee

Post by Kevin Hatton »

Anyone thinking of recording a steel guitar CD I highly recommend Marrs Recording Studio in Madison Tennessee. It is owned and operated by Larry Marrs son of the famous Sho-Bud ghuru Duane Marrs. Larry Marrs is a former bass player from the Marty Stuart band. He has spent many years in the Nashville recording studios and is still recognized as one of the greatest background singers in Nashville. You have heard him sing on many hits. Thats him singing high harmony on David Ball's "Think'n Problem". Larry is an expert producer, arranger, and sound engineer. For a base price of $400.00 a song you can have some of Nashville's smoke players play on your steel guitar CD. The quality of the finished project is world class. Larry Marrs is VERY thorough in producing a quality project. www.marrs-recording-studio.com 615-865-9229.

I have picked with Larry.. He s the real deal. He also sang on Keith Gattis' album a few years back. Larry also was with Tanya Tucker for a time.

IMHO Larry Marrs and Harry Stinson (drummer) are some of the best harmony singers in Nashville!!

Tim, I have new respect for you! Alot of people have heard Larry singing on major hits and never knew it. Truth be told, I also believe that both Larry Marrs and Harry Stinson are THE two premier male harmony singers in Nashville. I just played with Harry last month opening for Marty Stuart. The quality of recording coming out of Larry's studio is amazing.
[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 27 August 2004 at 06:01 PM.]

Thanks Kevin.

Great minds think alike.

I have spent alot of time picking with Marty back in the "Rock and Roll Cowboys" days when his band had Larry on Bass and Harmony Vox and Gary Hogue on Steel, JR Sturdivant (Kitty Wells & Johnny Wright's grandson) on Drums.

Don't forget the great guitarist Richard Bennett on his beautiful Gretch 6120..check out the LP TEMPTED. That is Richard sporting all of that low end twang..
Actually Richard, before moving to Nashville's west end and producing for MCA under Tony Brown, was Neil Diamond's Guitarist and Band leader for 11 yrs. At a visit to his home once, I noticed a plaque inside the front foyer it read "This is the house that Neil built".. I always thought that to be humorous..

Larry is the real deal...I am not sure if he would remember me or not..

Good times...

Tim, great photo. What a small world. I was allowed to play that very same mandolin at sound check with Marty Stuart. What an honor it was.
