Preamp for steel....?

Post by Mark Krutke »

A man at the Lexicon company suggested me to use a preamp with my Lexicon MPX500 to reduce the hiss, even after changing the output level on the Lexicon. Can anyone suggest a good preamp for steel?

Dan Sliter has a BlueTube II with steel mod for sale on this Forum. I use one of these and it is as good as any I have tried. I also have an idea that the new Evans high voltage pre-amp would be very good but probably much more expensive than the BlueTube that Dan has. His is new and still in the box. He has another one that he is using so he is not selling because he don't like it.

I'm using a Mesa/Boogie V-Twin preamp in front of a Lexicon MPX-100. The input level on the Lex is set real low (about 9 o'clock), and the output level controls my overall volume. It works great!

b0b,

If my memory serves me well your're using the 19" unit, right? Do you know if the stomp box sounds the same or are there significant differences? Over here you can get the pedal for a reasonable price but I've never seen the rack-mount uni for sale.

I use an original model Fuhrman PQ-3. gives me detailed control of equalization plus a master gain control. Fuhrman is building them again...resurrecting them by popular demand.
Emmons used the PQ-3 with a session 400 on the Live Convention Album.
