Peavey Blazer 158

Post by Steve Frost »

I'm wondering if there's a meaningful distinction between the (older) Blazer 158 and the TRANSTUBE Blazer 158. In other words, are they different in design, construction and tone, or is it a question of marketing nomenclature? Thanks- Steve

And is the Blazer 158 still in production?
Only the "Blazer II" is on their web site.

Steve & Joey. There is quite a bit of difference between the old Peavey Blazer and the new Transtube Blazer amp. Although the power is about the same (15 watts) the new Blazer features Peavey's new "Transtube" circuitry which sounds very close to the sound of tube amplifiers, and this amp also has a modeling-type switch, if you will, which gives you "modern or vintage" style voicing, and a Clean & Lead switch.

This amp also features Peavey's new Super Duty "Blue Marvel" speaker which here again, is quite an improvement over the older speaker they use to have in these amps, and there is also a CD/Tape input for practicing. Another nice feature for this amp is the Headphone Jack, and it has reverb and a 3-band EQ. This amp weighs around 14 and a half pounds.

I haven't tried this amp with a steel, but with a guitar, this little amp is loud, and has a pretty good tone considering its size.
