SoundMax?

I just got a new pc [WinXP] and in the SoundMax folder are the "usual" icons, but the INSTALL.EXE icon is a familiar white & blue 'amplifier' with 3 buttons in the upper right corner, and the content line says: {Install Program for Windows 2000 Drv...
Windows (R) 2000 DDK Provider}

First off, is SoundMax actually installed?
Shouldn't it be a version for Windows XP?
Should I upgrade? [version now is 5.0.2195.1620]
What is SoundMax exactly? I know it's an audio program, but what else?

Chip,

I just checked my HP workstation, with XP Professional installed and that is the same version of the SoundMAX that I have installed. I wouldn't worry about the version name. It's working fine for me.

You can check the SoundMAX driver installation by going to ...

My Computer -> Hardware -> Device Manager, when the window for Device Manager opens you can click on the '+' beside the Sound, video and game controllers line. This will expand that category of Device Types into a series of entries for all the Sound, Video, games Device Types currently installed on you machine. Right Click on the SoundMAX Integrated... line and then Click on Properties to view the current status of the driver and associated hardware.

I would venture to say that is properly installed and functioning properly but you may want verify that yourself.

Sorry I didn't answer all the questions on my first post.

Soundmax is made by Analog Devices and is the audio hardware/codec and associated software drivers for the 'on-board' audio circuitry of your computer (and quite a few other computers these days). The software that you see in that '.../AnalogDevices/SoundMAX' folder is just the installation routines and the drivers themselves. SoundMAX is not actually an end-user program that you can select from the Start Menu but rather a user interface to the hardware (via the drivers) that is found in the control panel. (under Start -> Settings -> Control Panal -> Sound and Audio devices.
