BIAB Question

I'm a new BIAB user and I know I should read the manual, but...

I have created a song and am using a style. I've changed the default instruments to some GM 2 selections but everytime the song starts up again, it reverts back to the old instrumentation. I've tried saving the song and if I stop the song and check the instrumentation, it is correct. But it reverts back to the original midi samples once the song starts to play again. What am I doing wrong? Something stupid?

Okay, I answered my own question: I found out where you can edit the styles.

New Question: Everything sounds fine except the solo map. If I choose any of the GM 2 files it still sounds like a cheap video game rather than the sound it has in the other instruments. For instance: I assign Acoustic guitar to the guitar instrument, and it sounds fine. I attached it to the solo instrument and it sounds like a gameboy. Any help would be great.

I havn't reloaded my old BIAB (Maybe ver 9) since the crash of 04 at my house. Even then I had an external sound module. BIAB excells at a lot of things, but midi sounds isn't one of them, and it appears that the latest version is no better.

I get excellent sound from my BB software. I wouldn't part with it. I'm up to Version 2005. I use Creative SB Live and Logitech THX speaker system which has 400 watts. Play my steel through the computer and record using PowerTracks Pro9.

You need good vocal chords to sing well. BB needs a good sound card & speakers to sound well.

Sorry Bill for taking so long to get back to you. I use a Roland JV-1010, which by now is probably an old unit. I paid about $400 for it maybe 3 years ago.

The stuff I do in BIAB I midi out to cakewalk (now old too). CAkewalk allows me to break out each track into midi, and even break out each part of the drum kit to it's own track to modify or mute. At that point I can add instrument parts, like guitar, in the wav. format, or midi in some other instruments from the keyboard.

The sound module, to my ear, just makes the midi parts sound far better.

There is also the option to save a song with patches and harmony (Alt F2). Using this you tell the program to fill all the settings for each instrument and it saves these so that next time you use it, they are there.

Don't forget the VSC program supplied with BIAB which considerably improves the sounds.

Amen to that! You really must use at least a software based synth (like VSC or Yamaha XG WDM softsynth - there are others). Pgmusic/ BIAB supplies one with the product - so use it!

Each time you hit play the song is regenerated with a slightly different arrangement, but the instruments will revert to what ever is in the style. If you get the song the way you want it, save it before you hit play, it will save as is. I recommend to save it with a different name so you do not lose the original, in case you need it sometime.
