Earl, if you were a steel player, I could tell you what I think of your CD again right here but I had to put it in the Music section. My son listened tonight and thought he heard some steel guitar voicing in it. This is a must CD for any steel player who loves all kinds of really good MUSIC without a genre label. Just so great!

Jerry, you are so kind. I have always loved to hear and work with the steel guitar even though I could never play one. Many years ago I found myself learning steel guitar licks from old Loyd Green albums and this was before B Benders and Palm Pedals and I still don't own a guitar with those accessories. What was important was using lighter strings to achieve the bends with the least resistance. One thing I would never do when playing with any steel player was to try and compete with them in the licks department when playing together. I think in many cases the benders are over used and I get bored very easily if I hear too much. I used to do a lot of trio work which included two years with Skeeter Davis in the late 60's and I could play anything I wanted. During my 6 years with Jim Ed Brown we didn't carry a steel for two years. The steel guitar has greatly influenced my playing over the years.I started playing guitar when I was nine and I had a very good teacher growing up and being able to major in music in high school didn't hurt either. I love chords and chord progressions. That's what I love about the steel guitar. I only have 6 strings to work with and I don't have to tell you how many a steeler has to work with. I am happy your son enjoys my music.

I haven't heard Earl's CD as yet, but if I'm certain of anything...it's great. Many years ago I had the pleasure of working a short time with Earl and to this day it remains one of the highlights of my musical life. Not that I know anything now, but back then...I had everything to learn and not much to offer in return.

The last time I heard him play was at Opryland and there were several times I would be there listening and he wouldn't even know I was there.

Earl, you're an awesome musician and a gentleman. Best of luck with all your projects.

Earl was so kind and sent me his CD a year ago or so. What knocked me out, was the fact he layed the guitar down for so many years and after some woodshedding, came back and proved that he's still a great player, thanks, Gary.

Mike, I never forgot our pickin' days together. Don't sell yourself short, you were a much better player than you gave yourself credit for. I am happy that we got the chance to work together.

Hello Eddie, I sure did work with Robby Roberson in Macon.(1968-69) You have a great memory. I used to go out with him when my other boss Skeeter Davis wasn't working. Those were the days when you had to take everything you could to make a living.
I forgot the name of the club we played in but I remember it was in the basement of a building and you had to drive behind the building to get to the entrance of the club.We sat down there for 2 months.Woody Woodell was still in Macon and had his music store when I met him during that time. Robby had a brother living in Macon and was in the home construction business. We probably met but I don't remember, that was many years ago. The drummer that was with us is now my brother in law, John Stacey. We each married one of the Cates Sisters 26 years ago. The bass players name was Tommy Miller.

Hey Earl, I was a 16 year old kid at the time you were in Macon, and my musician buddies would slip me in to hear you play. The club was called the Scarlet Garter. Doc Avey had a great place back then. Its been deserted for at least 25 years. Your playing back then just knocked me out, and I can only imagine how well you play now. I just got my copy - this is amazing work!

I'm sorry that our paths haven't crossed as we've shared some 'history' along our respective musical journeys, but I hope one day they will. Your tone, taste and musicality are impeccable - now I must get to work and steal some of those chord voicings!

i was Xpecting a lot of Twang on a Tele
instead i got a bunch of real mellow tones + many many many real nice chords, + great tunes.

Earl, I'm looking forward to purchasing this recording-please send me an E-mail with an address where I can buy an autographed copy. Sure did enjoy the comment about the style of playing you did with Skeeter-have had fun thinking about your notes behind "Fuel to the flame",etc. Did she do "Little Arrows" on tour? Know you would have done some great runs on that tune!

I would really like to see every musician have a copy of this CD. No matter how good you expect it to be I promise you that you will be pleasantly surprised because it is just gonna be much better than you expect it to be. I lost my copy, my son is running with it in his CD player in his car all the time now. Earl just flat out plays beautifully!!!!!!

Seems we went thru all of this about 2 years ago and the comment most used to describe this is still "WOW".

It went aluminum huh, Should have went a hell of a lot further with the quality of music on this one. This CD is still my favorite even after 2 years.

Earl, you're still my hero, but you never did send the Earl Erb method for getting paid when working for Robbie Roberson.

Earl, why not send a box of your CDs to b0b and let him sell them on the Forum? Anyone who loves good music is really missing out if they don't add this one to their collection and I would love to see you receive at least a small portion of the reward you deserve for such a fine CD. This
music can be a real inspiration to a steel player as well as six string player. If anyone who does not have this CD would contact someone who does I am sure you would be advised to by all means obtain one. I am a poor salesman and since I sell insurance for a living I am a relatively poor person for that reason but folks, you just gotta get your hands on this CD!! What else can I say?
